The Josephine
A stunning 130-year-old home in the historic Benton Park neighborhood of St. Louis was restored with timeless design that honored the home's rich history while incorporating modern updates and amenities. Drawing inspiration from St. Louis native Josephine Baker, design details were incorporated such as fringe and bead-like light fixtures reminiscent of her iconic beaded outfits. These fixtures became the jewelry of the home, adding a touch of glamour and history.
Preserving the original woodworking was a priority. The moldings, trimwork, doors, and interior transom windows remained intact, enhancing the home's character. Refinishing the hardwood floors, hidden under carpeting for years, revealed a showstopper element. The original fireplaces were also carefully maintained. To add modern amenities, a new rooftop terrace was included with stunning views of the Arch, as well as a new back door leading to a new 1st floor deck. A pollinator garden was added to support the local bee population. Originally a 3-bedroom, 2-bath layout, the home was converted into a 4-bedroom, 2-bath, making it perfect for a modern family. This real estate flip was a labor of love, blending history with contemporary living!
